Data Wrangler / Release Notes
Data Wrangler 0.5.1
Data Wrangler updates CatDV from a CSV or TSV file, without the copy and paste.
Added
Data Wrangler takes structured metadata from a CSV or TSV file and applies it to the right assets in CatDV. It is a desktop application. You do the work in its window. Control Room installs, licenses, and updates Data Wrangler.
Map spreadsheet columns to the CatDV fields that identify the right asset. Combine several fields with AND or OR rules, and choose exact, starts-with, or contains matches. Then map the remaining columns to the native, custom, or media-level CatDV fields that you want to update. Choose each CatDV field from a searchable list that Data Wrangler reads from your CatDV server. You can also add fixed values, such as a timestamp or a fixed text, that Data Wrangler writes on every update.
Set what happens when a row finds no asset: do nothing, or create a new asset. Set what happens when a row finds more than one asset: do nothing, update all, or update the first. Path rules translate file paths when systems use different path conventions, for example from a Mac path to a Windows network path. Test a path rule on a sample path before you use it.
Stage a CSV or TSV file and select Run. Data Wrangler shows progress while it processes the file. History keeps a record of each job. Job detail shows each row with its search value, match count, action, target asset IDs, fields written, and any error. Your setup is saved, so you can use it again when the next batch arrives.
Compatibility
Data Wrangler runs on macOS 13 or later, on Apple silicon or Intel, and on Windows 11 x64. You need Control Room to install, license, and update Data Wrangler.
You need a CatDV Server that your computer can reach, and a CatDV REST API account with permission to read and update assets. Use HTTPS for the CatDV connection when your server supports it. Your file must be CSV or TSV, with a consistent header row, and 50 MB or smaller. Data Wrangler must contact the license server regularly to keep running imports.
Upgrade
Install and update Data Wrangler from Control Room. Close the Data Wrangler window before you update or uninstall it.
Known issues
Data Wrangler processes one file at a time. Larger files must be split into parts of 50 MB or less. CatDV changes that a run has already made are permanent. If you quit during a run, Data Wrangler stops the unfinished rows and keeps the record of the finished rows. Settings, mappings, and history belong to the user account that created them. A different user account on the same computer starts with an empty setup.
