Chapter 3
3. A first import
This example updates the notes on one existing CatDV asset. Use a test asset that you can change. Run file makes real changes in CatDV.
3.1 Prepare one row
Find a CatDV asset with a unique name. Replace guide-test.mov below with that name and save the text as first-import.csv.
Clip Name,Notes
guide-test.mov,Metadata checked with Data Wrangler
If names are not unique in your catalog, use an approved unique identifier instead. Chapter 5 covers compound searches.
3.2 Connect to CatDV
- Open Settings, then Connection.
- Enter the CatDV API address, API username, and API password.
- Select Test CatDV connection and wait for the result.
- Select Save settings. A successful test does not save the connection.
3.3 Keep missing and duplicate matches unchanged
- Open Settings, then Match Handling.
- Set When no asset matches to Do nothing and flag the row.
- Set When several assets match to Do nothing and flag the row.
- Select Save settings if you changed either choice.
These choices keep this example limited to rows with exactly one match.
3.4 Map the columns
- Open Settings, then Field Mappings.
- Open Import headers and select Choose a file to import. Choose
first-import.csv. - On the Clip Name card, select Edit. Set Field type to Native in the picker. Choose
name. - Move that card to Search By. Set Match rule to Is exactly.
- On the Notes card, select Edit. Set Field type to Native in the picker. Choose
notes. - Move that card to Write To.
- Wait for All changes saved before leaving the page.
If you already have mappings, keep only this example's required source columns active for this file.
3.5 Stage and run
- Open Run.
- Select Choose a CSV or TSV file and choose
first-import.csv. - Check the staged filename, row count, and Saved setup.
- Select Run file.
- Wait for the final result, then select View job details.
Staging checks the file and saved configuration. It does not write metadata to CatDV or predict every row's matches.
3.6 Confirm the result
In job detail, select Details for the row. Check the matched asset identifier, the action, and Confirmed fields.
Open the same asset in CatDV. Its notes should read Metadata checked with Data Wrangler. Data Wrangler also writes the data.wrangler.last.touch timestamp.
If the row failed, read its message before trying again. A missing or duplicate match needs a corrected search or source value.
