Chapter 2
2. Getting Data Wrangler
Prepare a supported computer, Control Room, a Data Wrangler license code, and a CatDV account before your first import.
2.1 Requirements
| Requirement | macOS | Windows |
|---|---|---|
| System | macOS 13 or later | Windows 11 |
| Computer | Apple silicon or Intel | x64 Intel or AMD |
| Control Room | Version 0.38.0 or later | Version 0.38.0 or later |
| Installation | Permission to install applications | Administrator permission; Microsoft WebView2 Runtime installed for the machine |
| Network | Access to CatDV; internet access for installation and license validation | Same |
Linux, Windows on ARM, and older macOS versions are not supported.
Ask your administrator for the CatDV API address, username, and password. Use the API address, including its API version path, rather than the CatDV web login address.
2.2 Install Control Room
Download Control Room from the Control Room page. Choose the Mac or Windows installer.
On macOS, open the disk image and drag ControlRoom to Applications. On Windows, run the installer and accept the administrator prompt. Install the Microsoft WebView2 Runtime first if the installer requests it.
Open Control Room. It opens to Apps without a Control Room account or sign-in. If you already have it, use version 0.38.0 or later.
2.3 Install and license Data Wrangler
- Open Control Room on this computer.
- In Apps, select Data Wrangler, then Enter License. Control Room 0.38.0 to 0.39.1 uses Install on This Mac or Install on This PC.
- Enter the supplied code in Data Wrangler license code. Select Validate and install.
- Allow the system installation prompt when requested. Wait for installation and activation to finish.
- Select Open Data Wrangler.
2.4 Open the application
Open Data Wrangler from Control Room, Applications on macOS, or the Windows Start menu. One window opens to Run. Opening it again brings the existing window forward.
2.5 Where your work lives
Settings, field mappings, path rules, job history, and license activation belong to your signed-in user account.
| System | Data folder |
|---|---|
| macOS | ~/Library/Application Support/Data Wrangler/ |
| Windows | %AppData%\Data Wrangler\ |
The database is data-wrangler.db inside that folder. Its location is fixed. Another user account has separate settings and history.
A staged file is a temporary copy. It disappears when you quit. The original source file stays where you placed it.
