Chapter 4

4. Settings

Open Settings and select a section from its menu. Connection, match handling, request handling, and logging changes need Save settings.

4.1 Connection

Enter the CatDV API address and account credentials. Prefer HTTPS, which protects requests in transit. Plain HTTP exposes the live session cookie on the network.

Test CatDV connection checks the entered values without saving them. The test signs in, reads the catalog list, then signs out. It uses one CatDV user seat during that work.

The test reports authentication, seat limits, unreachable servers, and timeouts separately. Wait for sign-out cleanup before testing again.

The application does not display the saved password. Leave the password box blank to keep it when saving. A test reuses the saved password only when the address and username match the saved connection.

4.2 Match Handling

These settings control which assets a live import can change.

Search result Choice Result
No match Do nothing and flag the row No asset changes; the row records a failure
No match Create a new asset Create an asset and apply its write fields
One match Always update Apply write fields to that asset
Several matches Do nothing and flag the row No asset changes; the row records a failure
Several matches Update the first match Update the first asset returned by CatDV
Several matches Update every match Update every returned asset

Use Do nothing and flag the row for missing and duplicate matches during initial setup. Expand these choices only when the import requires it.

Update the first match depends on CatDV result order. It does not identify the best match. Update every match can change several assets from one source row.

Catalog ID for new assets is available when creation is selected. Enter the catalog identifier supplied by your administrator. Leave it blank to use CatDV's default catalog behavior.

New assets use the written native name value when available. Otherwise, Data Wrangler uses the first search value as the name. Search-only values do not become written metadata automatically.

4.3 Request Handling

Setting Default Allowed range
Requests per second 10 1 to 100
Maximum retries 3 0 to 10

Lower the request limit if CatDV reports load or rate errors. Retries can recover temporary failures, but they also extend the time before a final failure.

4.4 Logging

Select Save a log file to enable local diagnostics. Choose the log level, maximum size, and number of old copies. Logging is off by default.

The default maximum size is 10 megabytes (MB), with three old copies. The file is data-wrangler.log beside the database.

Debug logging records request and response payloads. Passwords and session identifiers are hidden. Payloads can still contain asset metadata. Inspect the log before sharing it.

4.5 About

About shows the application version, update channel, license state, expiration, and activation reference. Manage licenses in Control Room.
