Chapter 11
11. Reference
11.1 File formats and limits
| Item | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Accepted extensions | .csv, .tsv |
| File separator | Use commas for .csv and tabs for .tsv; staging checks the extension's separator |
| Header | Required as the first row; each name must be nonblank and unique, ignoring case |
| Data rows | At least one; each record must have the same column count as the header |
| Text encoding | Use UTF-8; its byte order mark is removed from headers |
| Column matching | Ignores case; surrounding header spaces are trimmed |
| Cell values | Surrounding spaces are trimmed |
| Unmapped columns | Ignored |
| Blank search cell | Row fails |
| Blank source write cell | Omitted; existing CatDV value remains |
| File size | Up to 50 MB |
| Active work | One staged file or running job at a time |
| Staged-file lifetime | 30 minutes before starting; expiry does not stop a running job |
| History and row pages | 50 results per page |
| Input types not supported | Spreadsheet workbooks, XML, and JSON |
XML means Extensible Markup Language. JSON means JavaScript Object Notation. Export spreadsheet data as CSV or TSV before staging. The filename extension must agree with the separator.
11.2 Defaults
| Setting | Default |
|---|---|
| No matching asset | Do nothing and flag the row |
| Several matching assets | Do nothing and flag the row |
| Catalog for creation | Blank; use CatDV default behavior |
| Requests per second | 10 |
| Maximum retries | 3 |
| Log file | Off |
| Log level | Info |
| Maximum log size | 10 MB |
| Old log copies | 3 |
11.3 File locations
| Item | macOS | Windows |
|---|---|---|
| Application | /Applications/Data Wrangler.app |
C:\Program Files\North Shore Automation\Data Wrangler\Data Wrangler.exe |
| Local data | ~/Library/Application Support/Data Wrangler/ |
%AppData%\Data Wrangler\ |
| Database | data-wrangler.db in local data |
Same |
| Optional log | data-wrangler.log in local data |
Same |
These local data locations belong to the signed-in user. The application does not offer a database location setting.
11.4 Operations and boundaries
Data Wrangler uses outbound connections to CatDV and the licensing service. It exposes no listening web address. Normal import work uses the desktop window.
It does not watch folders, run scheduled imports, send email notifications, export result files, or provide automatic rollback. Inspect results in History.
